Goddess of the Day – Tamra

Crane Watch (Nebraska)

Themes:  Air; earth; nature; health; longevity’ devotin; wishes; relationships

Symbols:  Feathers, Birdseed

About Tamra:  In Hindo tradition, this goddess was the ancester of all birds.  As such, she can teach us their special language, which often bears communications from the divine.  As the consort of the turtle god, Kassyapa, she also represents a potent union between earth and air elements

To do Today:  People  in Nebraska spend six weeks watching the crane who rest and feed here during the migratory season.  This region of the United States boasts the largest group of sandhill cranes, about fifty thousand birds.  Magically speaking, these creatures represent health, longevity and devotion.  Visualize a crane resideing in your heart chakra anytime you need improved well-being.

Birds offer numerous magical applications.  For warmth in a relationship, scatter feathers to the winds with your wish.  The birds will use the feathers in their nests, symbolically keeping your nest intact and affectionate.  Or, disperse birdseed while thinking of a question.  As the birds fly away, watch their movement.  Flight to the right indicates a positive response; to the left is negative.  If the birds scatter, things are iffy.  If they fly straight up overhead, a heartfelt wish is being taken to Tamra.

Happy Holidays

Everyone be safe and enjoy friends and family this holiday season

Asking Festival (Alaska) – Pukkkeenegak

 (pronounced poo-KEE-neh-gack)

Themes:  Kinship; community; thankfulness; charity; kindness;

Symbols:  Tattoos
About Pukkeenegak:  This Inuit goddess presides over all household and community affairs.  As a mother figure, she watches kindly over her children, making sure we have clothing and food.  Art shows her with a tattooed face, boots, and a lovely dress befitting the patronesss of seamstresses.

To Do Today:  Among the Inuit, this is a time when youths go door to door gathering foods for the huge community feasts.  Afterward, people petition one another for gifts – exchanging the entire community’s goods in the spirit of thanksgiving.  So, orchestrate a gathering of people of a like mind for a potluck dinner at which Pukkeenegak is the guest of honor (leave a place setting for her).
Wear special clothing today that reflects the goddess’s gift with needle and thread.  Or organize a clothing drive so people can donate items they no longer need to a charitable cause.  This way the goddess can bless each peron who receives one of those garments with her good providence.
If you’ve found your home or heart tense lately, invoke Pukkeenegak’s unifying, steadying energy by drawing an emblem of peace over your heart chakra or on the back of your hand (use non-toxic markers or body paint).  Leave it there until it naturally wears off, by which time the magic should show signs of manifesting.

October 2 Ennoia

Today is Guardian Angel Day (Spain/Europe)

Themes:  Mediation; communication; magick; knowledge

Symbols:  Angels

About Ennoia:  In Gnostic tradition, Ennoia is the goddess of knowledge, intention, and thought.  Through her all things were designed and manifested, including the angels.  Through Ennoia we can learn the art of magic and how to communicate with angels as mediators between us and the gods.To do Today:  Today is a time to give thanks to the angels in our lives – those powers and people who protect, inspire and watch over us.  One easily adapted tradition from Spain is that of wearing scarves and bells.  These represent the beauty and music angels are said to bear into human life.

Second, take a moment to give back to the people in your life who have been likely eartly angels (you know, the folds who bring soup when you are sick, or offer money when funds are tight).  Do something really nice for them, or minimally, light a candle on their behalf asking for angelic blessings in their lives.

Finally, try to connect with your guiding guardian angel(s).  During your daily prayers or meditation, ask that power to reveal itself in words comfortable to you.  Wait, watch and listen.  The angel may reveal itself as the sound of bells or quiet music, with radiant light, or in other manifestations.  If the being speaks with you, write down the words and ponder them in the days ahead.

September 21 Goddess Ningal

Yes I know it is not the 27st – but that was my birthday so I wanted to share my day Goddess with everyone.

Wings and Water Festival (New Jersey)
Themes:   Ecology, Nature, Abundance, Earth, Water
Symbols:  Water, Maritime Art, seafood, reeds, marsh plants
About Ningal:  This ancient Mesopotamian goddess abides in regions filled with reeds or marshes, which she also vehemently protects.  She is also considered an earth and vegetation goddess who visits us with abundance during the autumn.

To do today:  This festival takes place over two days during the third week-end in September.  It’s dedicated to fund-raising for Ningal’s endangered whetlands in southern New Jersey and educating the public on the tremendous value of these regions to the local ecology.  To honor this effort and the spirit of Ningal, consider making a donation to a group that strives to protect wetlands (please investigate them first) and perhaps enjoy a nice seafood chowder as New Englanders do today.  This meal reconnects you with the water element and Ningal’s fertility.
For tokens that bear Ningal’s powerinto your home, look to cattails, lily pads, mosses, indoor water fountains, or art that depicts these types of things.  First think in the morning, don dark greens, mossy browns, or clothing that depicts reeds or marshy scenes.  Also drink plento of water or rake a cool bath to create a stronger connection to this element’s power and to commemorate Ningal’s dwelling place.

In creation of the light, let us see the greater good..

Just a little something to brighten your day.

what a week

and it is only Monday – had company for 5 days  then medical today, tomorrow and Wednesday – doesn’t leave much time for anything else.  It is already after midnight so I really need to crash – but hope everyone is having a blessed day and week to come.  More soon.

Goddess of the Day July 28

Old Woman of the Sea – Sandcastle Days  (California)

Themes:  Water, Recreation; Rest, Art

Symbols:  Sand; Saltwater; Sea Creatures

About the Old Woman of the Sea:  Among the Native Americans of California, this simple designation says it all.  This goddess is a primordial being whose essence and power is linked with the ocean and all that dwells within.  Old Woman of the Sea washes into our lives today with waves of refreshment and relaxation.  She is also a powerful helpmate for all water-related magic.

To Do Today:  Sandcastle-building competitions began in Imperial Beach, California, in 1981.  Many of the artistically crafted sculptures feature sea creatures and other water themes.  Alongside the festival, all manner of community activities take place, including children’s competitions, feasting, and live music.  So stop  by a gardening store and get yourself a little sand!  Mix up some saltwater to mold and shape it.  As you do, listen to some watery music, and focus on the Old Woman of the Sea.  Try to capture her image in the sand, and as you do, you will capture her magical power in your heart.
If you live anywhere near a beach, today’s a perfect time to practice sand and water magic.  Write a symbol in the sand describing what you hope to achievek, then let the tide carry it to the Old Woman for an answer.  Or, step into the surf and let the goddess draw away your tension and anxiety into her watery depths.

From Patricia Telesco’s 365 Goddess

Old Woman of the Sea is the Salinan Goddess of water, particularly the ocean and its power. The Salinan tribes of California told a flood story as follows: At the beginning of the world, Eagle was chief among the animals. Old Woman of the Sea was jealous of his power and plotted against him. One day, she came on to the land with her basket, which held the sea. She poured the water out, covering almost all of the land—everything was covered except for the top of one mountain, where all the animals gathered. Eagle asked Puma to give him some of his whiskers, from which he made a lariat. Eagle lassoed the basket away from Old Woman of the Sea. Without her basket, Old Woman of the Sea died and the water stopped rising. Eagle then had Kingfisher dive down into the water and fetch some mud, from which he formed the world. Eagle then formed humans out of elderberry branches; when he breathed on them, they came to life and became the Salinan people.

Welcome to my Magickal Place!!!

First off Thanks to Judy Nowakoski for doing this for me – as I have yet to master setting up a WP blog.  Thanks so much.

My plans for the site/blog – well lots of fun and magickal goodies.  Hoping to daily post the Goddess of the day but every now and then life gets in the way and I don’t find the time.  Pretty much anything spiritual/magickal/spells/ whatever I run across or think of that I want to post.
